It’s over. Lots of interesting, and not so interesting things happened. We networked, we learned, we hit speed bumps. Most of all, we grew.

Lets see if I can sum it up simply.

Got our first taste of strobe lighting

Attended a bazillion group events

Worked a wedding with a friend – learned a lot.

Worked our first wedding… alone – Learned even more

Met lots of cool people!

Helped build a photography studio, moved into and out of said studio

Made many business contacts – a few of them turned out to be snakes & generally dishonest people (see above line)

Shot our first commercial gig for a recording artist – had that work stolen & claimed as someone elses thru not-so-clear contract jargon

Met some more cool people

Started doing some video work, realized we enjoy this too. We’re also pretty good at it!

Met a fellow family & wedding photographer, started working out ways to collaborate

Started working on a new studio with some of the cool people we met

Started working on developing some concepts into new business ideas

That brings us to 2013.

Lots of changes on the horizon. New studio, new people, new direction…

We have a few meetings in the works with some pretty significant weight behind them.

With all that said, we’d like to wish 2012 a farewell as we look on to the new year with a new focus. Thanks to everyone who has had an impact on us. Good & bad, lots of lessons learned.

Josh & Caitlin. Wed June 2, 2012 in Celebration Florida.

The venue was Celebration Golf Cub, tucked neatly inside Disney’s Celebration in Orlando, FL. There was a quaint white gazebo placed on a spread of grass fit for a world class golf course. Small doses of color scattered around the greenery lining the ceremony spot. Past the white picket fence there was an overlook that gave view to a scenic vista filled with rolling hills and on occasion patrons of the worlds most relaxing sport. It was simple, it was beautiful. It was perfect.

On to the ceremony. It was short, sweet, and right to the point. Just like it should be. The officiant, a family member of the groom, spoke words of inspiration that will help these two on the obstacles they are bound to face. As with any wedding, the stress of the day takes a toll on a person’s nerves and it seems like there’s a point where there is just no more room for worry. This moment reared during the ceremony in the form of a tongue slip during the vow recital. As a reaction, Caitlin could only laugh. At this point, there was no more stress, no more worry. All that was left, was happiness.

We did our first studio shoot!! Our good friend Danny organized this event. We were discussing co-hosting an event based on a zombie bride concept and this was the eventual product. The shoot was limited to us, our friend Bethany, and of course, Danny. Having a small group allowed us to really give direction and let the models get comfortable to get the shots exactly how we imagined. Hair and Makeup were on site, which was provided by the extremely talented Marigold Scott team. The event was held at Dynasty Hair Salon & Photo Studio in Orlando, FL. Dynasty is unique in the fact that it’s a photo studio and a operational hair salon. And, as far as we can tell, there’s no compromise on either end. The studio has plenty of onsite lights (by Paul C. Buff) and wireless trigger systems. There’s a makeup/hair station, music, lounging area, etc. Basically, if you need a studio in the Orlando area, check this place out!

As always, if you happen across this post, and enjoy what you see, tell us on our Facebook!

Now that most of March is gone I figure it’s time to update.

We’ve been pretty busy.

Shot our first wedding! We accompanied our good friend Bethany Blair (her Facebook) as a second shooter and videographer. We got to witness a unique but beautiful traditional Celtic ceremony complete with kilts, bagpipes and of course pints!!! Take a peek for your self: Ceremony & Reception. We tooks lots of video at this event, hopefully we’ll have something to show our cinematic muscles soon! We got a special clip of bagpipes, very surreal at the moment of capture, I just hope the video does Sonny justice.

We also teamed up with our good friend Danny Nguyen of Gobo Studios to shoot another friend of ours, Carly Harms. She had an idea to shoot at a really nice park in Orlando, FL called Jay Blanchard Park. We got there just before golden hour. We got really nice shots with the Sun as the hair light. Carly has a playful and warm look so this park at sunset really complemented each other nicely. Check our what we came up with HERE. You can also check out Danny’s work HERE.

We did a shoot with our friend Howie Hyunh. He gathered a couple of his lady friends (Autumn & Carly) and we hit up Baldwin Park. Autumn and Carly were fantasic. It was long day of walking, wind and wardrobe changes and they didn’t miss a beat. These ladies will have some excellent stuff for their portfolios. We were joined by some great photographers: Justin Belucci, Tommy Reese, Chad Maali, and Ernie Castro. Check out the Album HERE.

Walter and I do tons of location scouting, in fact, if we’re driving, we’re location scouting. We came across a place practically in our back yard that turned out to be a gem hidden in plain sight. At first glance it just looks like one of the bazillion other properties abandoned for over-paid and under-valued. But being the diligent location scouts we are, we decided to check it out and to our surprise there is a really rundown, rustic and overall pretty dangerous warehouse/garage on the property that is perfect for that urban decay scene popular right now. We got together with Danny (remember him?) and a friend of his, Diana Bisnette and came up with a really nice contrast concept. Diana wore a lacy skirt with matching gloves and then a longer length red dress that totally lit up this terribly awesome locale. Take a peek at our concepts HERE.

People who have followed us for a while may know that we’re affiliated with OPAM (Orlando Photographers, Actors, & Models Meetup Group). It’s a mouthful to say and moreso to type, but getting quality work and better friends from this group is easy as pie. We’ve met many of our contacts and even more of our good friends through this group. Our most recent outing took place at Church Street in Downtown Orlando, FL. We’ve shot here many times, mostly car shows and night life stuff. We almost didn’t make this meetup due to being run ragged and a tad behind on projects but we decided to tough it out. We are SO glad we did. Had we not gone, we wouldn’t have met Skylar Mann. Skylar is an incredible talent. She moves with grace and intuition. Her mother who was on set to assist with direction, wardrobe, hair and makeup, picked an outfit that appeared to be a throwback to the 60′s. Very retro, vintage feel. I love this style from a retoucher/editor perspective. The grain and light tones give the images warmth and help to cover up minor technical imperfections like soft focus or noise, not to mention the style is timeless. Win/Win in my book. We we floored when we got the images home and looked at them on my PC for the first time. Even the bad ones were awesome! I found myself using images you’d normally throw out, like images with blown highlights, soft focus, or inattentive model. These shots were the most interesting. They really gave off a warm, playful vibe. We coupled these images with a preset I made for lightroom and busted out a body of work we’re truly proud to develop. Check out our progress thus far HERE. Keep your eye on this set, there’s sure to be lots more.

Today was a notable day for us!

We’ve been using Flickr as our main work stream. It’s the best place to see what we’re up to and view some of our latest projects. As the main editor of our work, I use Flickr exclusively as a respository due to its extremely seamless and pain free integration with Adobe Lightroom (my main editing tool).

All that said, we hit 25,000 unique views on our photostream. And no, Flickr doesn’t count all the times we hit refresh

So, to any and all of you who’ve viewed our page, we say thanks. Thanks for your time and support.

We’d also like to say, STAY TUNED!

If you like our work and want to tell us, or just want to say hello, hit us up on facebook.

MegaCon graced Orlando’s Orange County Convention center. This annual comic book/sci-fi convention promises to not disappoint in regards to visual appeal. If you’re a fan of anime, cartoons, comic books, graphic novels, old sci-fi, new sci-fi, whatever — there’s probably something here that will catch your eye and make you say “now that’s freaking cool”. This year was no exception.

Somehow or another we got the amazing opportunity to meetup with our friend Danny Nguyen and do a collaborative shoot of two fans of the Borderlands series of games on Xbox 360. The two characters were a mustachioed version of an old fan favorite of Dr. Zed aptly named Dr. Ned and a DLC (dowloadable content) character, Mad Moxxi. The two models were fantastic. Their costumes were unique and accurate and as for the personalities of the models themselvles, you won’t find a nicer duo. Check out our set on Flickr.

As for the rest of show, there were characters-a-plenty. Having worked for Smart City Networks which is located in the Orange County Convention center, I have attented several MegaCon’s and from past experience I know that a majority of the fun is to be had roaming the concourse in front of the exhibition hall. Check our Facebook or our Flickr set often for updates!

Also, Keep an eye on our good friend Danny’s work too. He is always sure to amaze!

We had the fortunate luck to attend some pretty cool events over the past week. We got to shoot a fundraiser/car show at UTI, we had a Valentine’s day shoot with our friends of the Orlando Photographers Actors & Models Meetup group, we shot our good friends Out go the Lights, and made new friends with Kopecky Family Band, and finally we shot a steampunk event with a photography based Facebook group.

There’s people, other cars, the DJ booth, etc usually in the frame and even though we try to keep the shots as close to the subject as possible it’s inevitable that we’ll end up with a really great shot seemingly ruined by the atmosphere. There is a trick, however! It’s called a composite. Many photographers take creative license with items or subjects in their images and “move” things around a bit. I’m attempting to teach myself this technique for our images. It seems easy, and technically it is. The hard part is making it believable. Hopefully I’ll have some great examples to show soon; for now though, have a peek at one our HDR’s from our trip to Miami.

So, we’re pretty excited right now. The folks over at StayStetti.com have asked to use our images from the State of Stance event we attended in Miami, FL.

I’ve been working pretty hard on delivering images from event coverage in a style that people aren’t used to. Most of the time the norm is to just dump the 300 images you snapped from a point an shoot camera. We’re taking a completely different and opposite direction. I’m editing these images by combining 3+ images to improve the tonal range and display the most accurate highlight and shadow detail. We’re also treating each image as its own piece of art. We’re using themes that fit the subject car. I’ve put a lot of work into this and it appears to be paying off.

We’d like to thank Teza and the folks at StayStetti.com for giving us the opportunity to work with a great group of people and expand our brand.

While we haven’t really decided on a particular path to take as our focus; we have been seeing a huge percentage of our views and traffic to our automotive work. Particularly show/event coverage. We’ve recently hooked up with Ravi Angard of V2lab.com to get some insight on how to take auto portraits.

Basically his method was light painting.

We were familiar with light painting as a technique, but hadn’t really thought of it as a method suitable for cars. Which is strange now that I think about it since light painting is popular with product photography. Cars are products too, right?

Oh ya, interesting factoid. Evidently being parked on a side road near a closed bank at 1AM spells trouble. We were harrassed by two officers because we were blocking a public roadway. Which we weren’t. The greatest part is I didn’t have my ID on me. It took a lot of control to not give some over the top “stage name”…
